White Rose Order (Suomen Valkoisen Ruusun ritarikunta), Knight class in silver. Very rare, French manufactured cross. It differs considerably from the Finnish made inisignia, mainly the details of the lions between arms. Centre disk features the rose petal pointing downwards wchich is considered of the earliest vintage. Hallmarks visible beneath the ball suspension of the reverse, French boar fineness mark and 'diamond' shaped cartouche outline typical to French manufacturers - contents are not readable though, could be Lemaitre or Chobillon. Complete with original ribbon and 'U' type stick pin fastener (typical for the French). Compared to the Finnish-made crosses, this example has thinner planchet - about 1.7mm thick. Cross is 37.5mm in width. Nice patina and slight tarnish. While the examples by Tillander are rather common, those by foreign manufacturers are scarce, thus presenting extra value to a discerning collector. Item # Fin-24 *Sold* |
